About the Film

Deep in the Sierra Nevada mountains, a Gold Rush settlement boomed and withered with changing fortune. Today, the few remaining residents fight to keep their community, and their memory, alive. Shot on B&W Super 16mm, floating between document and dream, "Refusing to Ghost" is a tale of tales and portrait of a rural town’s struggle for survival in the American West.

Independently produced by wife & husband team Sara Ross-Samko and Chris Dennis,   "Refusing to Ghost" is an impressionist portrait shot lovingly on Super 16mm film.
